BACK TO PLACKS
Born in the Scottish Highlands and forged from a collision of punk rock and traditional Celtic music, The Placks are back — bringing with them a formidable catalogue of songs, musicianship and experience accumulated both under The Placks name and during their subsequent years as The Ramstampits.
The band’s sound is unmistakably Scottish: soaring fiddle, accordion and pipes driven by pounding drums, guitars and huge singalong choruses. Think the raw energy of Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly, the storytelling spirit of The Pogues, and the unmistakable sound of Scotland — delivered by musicians whose roots run through both the international punk scene and traditional Scottish music.
The Placks originally emerged from the Highlands in 2019, quickly attracting attention across the international Celtic-punk community. Their Rebellious Sons release reached #6 in London Celtic Punks’ Best Celtic-Punk EP/Single of 2019, while the band’s line-up brought together accomplished rock and traditional musicians, including former world-champion pipe-band players.
At the heart of the band is singer and songwriter Iain "Captain K' Kilgallon, whose punk pedigree includes a catalogue of 14 studio albums between his bands Intensive Care, Beerzone and Control and international touring alongside the likes of Dropkick Murphys, Rancid, UK Subs and The Business.
The concept behind The Placks grew from a simple idea: combine the energy, melody and attitude of punk rock with the instruments and musical traditions of Scotland and heartfelt, poignant lyrics and catchy melodies and crowd-pleasing singalong choruses.
During their years performing and recording as The Ramstampits, the musicians continued developing that sound, releasing Light The Beacon, Stompin’ wi’ the ’Stampits EP's and the full-length album For Land and Girls and Rum — creating a catalogue that moves effortlessly between full-throttle Celtic punk, anthemic singalongs, folk, ballads and riotous foot-stompers.
Now that journey has come full circle xpect a stomping set of well loved The Placks classics, a selection of the best of The Ramstampits tunes and a barrel load of new material which is currently brewing nicely.
The Placks are back — louder, stronger and ready for the next chapter.
